Welcome...

Thanks for stopping by.  I'm pastor of First Baptist Church in Dupo, IL. My main purpose here is to keep you up-to-date on the life of FBC. Perhaps along the way I’ll share a few tales from the winding road…this journey called life, where God can be seen in the moments of our day if we are looking for Him. I hope you enjoy your visit. Be sure to drop in often. ~Roger~

Thought for the Day

Christ sometimes delays His help that He may try our faith and quicken our prayers. The boat may be covered with the waves, and He sleeps on; but He will wake up before it sinks. He sleeps, but He never oversleeps; and there are no "too lates" with Him.  Alexander Maclaren

Words to live by...

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1-4

Wrapping up the 30 day journey

If you have been joining me on the 30 day worship journey, which has actually taken more than 30 days, you have spent time the past 30+ days contemplating the greatness of our God. What a difference it makes in the day when you start out by worshiping God while focusing on His attributes.

Do you not know?  Have you not heard?  The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. Isaiah 40:28

On the final day of our journey consider that God is our reality. He is ultimate truth and He holds all things together. This world is not our reality…our true reality is in God’s kingdom. When we truly abide in Christ we dwell in the reality of His kingdom.

“You have been raised to life with Christ, so set your hearts on the things that are in heaven, where Christ sits on his throne at the right side of God. Keep your minds fixed on things there, not on things here on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. Your real life is Christ and when he appears, then you too will appear with him and share his glory!” Colossians 3:1-4

Grace-Giver

Day 29 – Grace-Giver

“That in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:7

“My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9

"But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone." Hebrews 2:9

[He adopted us] to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. Ephesians 1:6

Have you considered God’s amazing grace lately? We should begin every day by dwelling on the Giver of great grace.

God is Just

Day 28 - God is Just

God rules with absolute justice.

All his ways are just; a God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and right is he. Deuteronomy 32:4

God is infinitely just, and his justice demands that men should be punished, unless they turn to him with full purpose of heart. We must all of us believe that the God who is slow to anger and great in power is also sure not to acquit the wicked.  C. H. Spurgeon

I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy. Psalm 140:12

Long Suffering

Day 27 – God is Patient

He is patient, long-suffering, slow to anger, abounding in love.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth. Exodus 34:6

But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Psalm 86:15

When he forgives unto seventy times seven, and still waits, and still holds back his thunders, we are amazed, because our mind is not in harmony with the mind of the Infinitely-patient God. C. H. Spurgeon

Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the LORD your God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love, and he relents from sending calamity. Joel 2:13

But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those who would believe on him and receive eternal life. 1 Timothy 1:16

Adonai

Day 26 - Adonai - Lord

I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever. Psalm 86:12

The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? Psalm 118:6

Adonai is translated Lord. It signifies God’s ownership or mastership over the human family and explains His claim to our unrestricted obedience.  Lordship means complete possession on the one hand (God’s part) and complete submission on the other (our part).

I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Exodus 20:1-2

The Lord is faithful to provide for His children and we express our love through our devotion and obedience.

I said to the LORD, "You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing." Psalm 16:2
