Welcome...

Thanks for stopping by.  I'm pastor of First Baptist Church in Dupo, IL. My main purpose here is to keep you up-to-date on the life of FBC. Perhaps along the way I’ll share a few tales from the winding road…this journey called life, where God can be seen in the moments of our day if we are looking for Him. I hope you enjoy your visit. Be sure to drop in often. ~Roger~

Thought for the Day

Christ sometimes delays His help that He may try our faith and quicken our prayers. The boat may be covered with the waves, and He sleeps on; but He will wake up before it sinks. He sleeps, but He never oversleeps; and there are no "too lates" with Him.  Alexander Maclaren

Words to live by...

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. Romans 8:1-4

It's Free...

What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather, discovered in this matter? If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. What does the Scripture say? "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness." Romans 4:1-3

One of the great pitfalls that many people fall into is believing that they can earn their way into heaven.  Our earthly economy is built on a system of rewards for work rendered. You work, you earn a wage. The harder you work, the more wages you earn. But in God’s economy just the opposite is true.  Grace is not something you work for.  It is not something you earn.  It is a free gift. Paul makes it very clear in Ephesians 2:8-9: For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast.

No matter how formidable the stone wall of sin that surrounds us, God’s grace is more formidable. No matter how sure the shackles that bind us, God’s grace is surer still.  I like the song The Hoppers sing titled Grace Will Always Be Greater Than Sin:

Broken and bruised from the choices you've made,
Sin has a price and so often you've paid
Oh but Jesus is waiting new hope is in Him;
And grace will always be greater than sin

Grace will always be greater than sin.
Calvary has proven it time and again.
Whatever you’ve done wherever you’ve been,
God’s grace will always be greater than sin.

God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 5:20-21 (NLT)

Those of us who have experienced this saving grace should be passionate about passing it on to those who are still wandering in darkness.

Blessed

We were truly blessed last night by Songs for the Soul.  Jason and the choir did a great job and I appreciate the dedication and hard work they put in so that we could enjoy an evening of inspirational music. I appreciate those who supported the choir and I trust you were blessed as much as I was.  We had many friends and family join us for the evening too.

In his book The Me I Want to Be, John Ortberg says: God's plan is not just for us to be saved by grace - it is for us to live by grace. God's plan is for my daily life to be given, guided, guarded, and energized by the grace of God. To live in grace is to flow in the Spirit.

My prayer is that you will be guided and energized this week by the grace of God.  It is all sufficient for our every need.
